Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where casino gaming is prohibited. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime spot, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and although visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many borders.

The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship gambling den, contains 150 slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that features a number of conveniences accompanying the gambling hall, which provides ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight table games.
